Much time has been spent talking about access to content, but how does our new "open" world affect whose voices are heard? How does it affect library workflows? In this "Ask the Experts" event, a panel of librarians will discuss open access as it relates to their acquisition strategies and financial responsibilities. Join us—and bring your questions—to learn how collections development is changing and how that may affect who gets published and how.
Neil Blair Christensen, Head of Publisher Relations, Knowledge Unlatched and Oable
Neil is the Head of Publisher Relations for Knowledge Unlatched and Oable. He has a +20-year career in scholarly publishing and information services, holding a range of prior roles in partnerships, business development, sales, and editorial for scholarly publishing and technology organizations, including Munksgaard, Blackwell, Nature Publishing Group, Wiley, University of California Press, Unsilo/ Cactus, Research Square Company, and as a consultant.
Robin N Sinn, Director of Collections and Open Strategies, Iowa State University
Robin N Sinn is the Director of Collections and Open Strategies at Iowa State University, University Library. The position merges scholarly communication and collections work. The goal is to support the research and learning at Iowa State University while transforming the academic publishing ecosystem to an open system. This requires changing how we use collection funds. In addition to purchasing and licensing content for our campus, we use several methods to make ISU research articles open, support open content used by our community, and provide funds for open infrastructure. Robin obtained her MS in librarianship from Drexel University. She previously worked at the Academy of Natural Sciences Academy Library, University of Toledo Carlson Library, Bowling Green State University Libraries, and Johns Hopkins University Sheridan Libraries.
Daisy Selematsela, University Librarian, University of the Witwatersrand
Daisy Selematsela (PhD) is the University Librarian at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University) Previously served as the Executive Director Library & Information Services at the University of South Africa (UNISA) and Acting Vice Principal for Research and Innovation; Executive Director Knowledge Management Corporate at the NRF. An appointed Professor of Practice of Knowledge Management of the University of Johannesburg. Her role in academic citizenship involves serving on international Boards of Directors of, CODATA (Committee on Data of the International Science Council) of the International Science Council, Research4Life and ORCID and term ended at COAR (Confederation of Open Access Repositories). At national level serves on the Board of Directors of ITOCA (Information Training and Outreach Centre for Africa), SANLiC (South African National Licensing Consortium) and serves as Chairperson of both CHELSA (Committee for Higher Education Librarians of South Africa) the South African National Committee of CODATA through the NRF. She previously served on the Board of the National Library of South Africa, Council for Library and Information Services (NCLIS) and Council of the National Archives of South Africa. She served on the Editorial Board of Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA) Data Science Journal (DSJ). Currently on the Editorial Board of both Global Change Research Data Publishing and Repository and Preservation, Digital Technology & Culture (PDT&C) Journal. Daisy is the recipient of the 2016 and 2019 Knowledge Management Leadership Award by the Global Knowledge Management Congress & Awards in association with World Education Congress; and the 1st International Conference on Knowledge and Innovation Management (ICKIM) Babcock University. As an alumnus of HERS-SA and HERS- Bryn Mawr College (Philadelphia).
Kelly Denzer, Collections Strategist and Discovery Librarian, Davidson College Library
Kelly is the Collection Strategist and Discovery Librarian for Davidson College Library where she oversees the selection, evaluation, discovery, and access to library resources. She collaborates on collection curation and promotion with faculty, students, and staff to ensure a diverse, evolving, relevant collection for the Davidson College community. Research and presentation topics include ebook licensing, collection development and budgeting, promoting resources around campus, accessibility, and open access options for authors and researchers. She is an active member of the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP), a past SSP Fellow, and a NISOPlus Scholarship awardee. She holds a MLIS from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a MA in Art History from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN.
