There are many factors that impact daily interactions with everyone—colleagues, family and friends—and this workshop will provide participants with some ways to improve interpersonal communication. Special emphasis will be given to personality type, gender, age, socioeconomics, listening, and virtual and face-to-face communications. At the end of the session participants will be able to identify many of the factors that impact communication and acquire some interpersonal communication skills.
About the Instructor:
Dr. Sue Alman teaches courses in Interpersonal Communications and Marketing and Public Relations for Libraries at San Jose State University School of Information, and she has held a variety of positions at the University of Pittsburgh, University of Michigan, and different types of libraries. Her areas of specialization include interpersonal communication, marketing and public relations, group dynamics, and foresight and strategic planning. Residing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Sue teaches, writes, consults, and is currently involved in an IMLS-funded investigation of the possible uses of blockchain technology in libraries and information organizations.
The OnDemand Video Content Library is the “anywhere, anytime” source for scholarly communications professionals to learn about timely topics and recent developments in scholarly publishing. This asynchronous learning platform offers a variety of recorded video content that users can access when it’s convenient for them. Some content is free to view on the platform and is denoted by an open lock icon. Content access will be available for 6 months from time of registration.
