SSP is hosting its second annual Virtual 5k Run, Walk, and Roll presented by Crossref to benefit the Generations Fund. This inclusive event encourages you to complete a 5k course where you are, however you can. Every registrant will receive an official race t-shirt. And, thanks to our amazing sponsors, 100% of your $35 registration fee will benefit the SSP's Generation Fund—our effort to permanently endow workforce development and DEAI programs that enhance the future of scholarly communications. You will also be recognized on the Generations Fund supporters list.

In mid- to late-April, you can check back here to access tips from our race ambassadors, see who else is registered and where they are running, access fellow participants' social media shares about their experience, and upload your race results.

Register by May 15th to make the cut-off deadline to receive a t-shirt before our race window of June 3-10, and share your participation on social media using the hashtags #SSP5k.

Who can participate?

Everyone is welcome to participate! Recruit your family, friends, local running group or social media followers to join you. The more the merrier—it's for a great cause, after all!

Is there an official race day?

Yes! Our official race day is Saturday, June 10. We will be encouraging participants to complete their 5k this day and share your results on social media. 

Do I have to run, walk, or roll on the official race day or in the race window?

No! The SSP Virtual 5k is all about inclusivity and this includes when and how you complete your race. You can complete your race and share results at any time after you register and up to the official race day of June 10.

What about race results?

Because everyone is completing the race on their own course and self-reporting, participants are encouraged to share their results for fun but we will not be recognizing place finishers. The SSP Virtual 5k is about community participation and wellness, not competitiveness.

What happens if I register but don't finish my 5k?

That's ok! You still did a bit of good and got an awesome t-shirt. Way to go!

What is the t-shirt registration deadline and what if I miss it?

You must register by May 15 for us to guarantee you will receive a t-shirt before the race window opens. If you register after the deadline, you will still receive your t-shirt but it might be after the official race day!

How do I become a sponsor?
